For many Vietnamese families, temples, churches, associations and Asian markets are where they first find help in Canada.
Places of worship
According to IRCC, places of worship are a good source of support during your transition. Many offer social services and help newcomers settle. There you can meet people who:
- know where to find the food you need;
- speak your language;
- share your culture and traditions.
Vietnamese temples and churches often hold major celebrations (Tết, Vu Lan, Christmas), Vietnamese classes for children and youth activities.

Associations
- Local Vietnamese associations, hometown associations, student and professional groups.
- They often run community Tết events, fairs and cultural activities, and help newcomers.
- Find them through social media, community pages, or by asking at temples and churches.
Markets and food
Large cities have many Asian markets and supermarkets with Vietnamese food. Small cities may only have an Asian aisle in a big supermarket; many people stock up in the nearest city.

Connecting more widely
Beyond the Vietnamese community, IRCC encourages:
- community centres, libraries and sports clubs;
- volunteering;
- your child's school activities.
Combining both gives you support and helps you integrate.
Note Be careful with investment, job or "fast paperwork" offers circulating in community groups. Always check official sources.
